A Message From Our President

23 Apr 2017

EBO President, Garry Sleath gives us some thoughts on another highly successful Organisation Concert.

Hello all,

I can't let the moment pass without saying a few words about last night's St George's day Enderby Bands Organisation collective concert. I know that we all engage in this activity for nothing other than altruistic aims, but nonetheless, I feel it would be remiss not to offer huge thank-yous and thereby acknowledge the massive efforts of a substantial amount of people without whom last night would not have taken place / run so smoothly / been the great success that the various outcomes and feedback clearly proved it to be.

Can I also offer my own heartfelt thanks to all those who helped to (in no specific order);

  • Provide transport for and both pick up and return equipment from both bandrooms
  • Moved, setup / packed away all said equipment at Brockington itself
  • Provided, supervised and served refreshments for all five bands, audience and helpers throughout both rehearsal and concert
  • Co-ordinated prizes, organised the printing and distribution/collection of tickets, set up and ran very smoothly a really successful raffle ( in spite of Dave's slight mis-timing!)
  • Liased with LOROS and Macmillan Nurses, and organised the cheque donation / presentation
  • Liased with and engaged/involved Dave Andrews and Radio Leicester
  • Contributed to the co-ordinating of the music programme and made sure appropriate parts were provided for all groups
  • Organised the printing of the programme
  • Organised the staging / seating of the bands in order to facilitate as smooth transitions as possible
  • All M.D's who clearly put much time and thought into their programme choice and considerable effort into rehearsing it
  • All players whose individual practice enabled the imaginative and entertaining programmes to be played to the highest standard possible
  • All individual band officials who in undertaking their roles fulfilled whatever was necessary to ensure the success of the evening
  • All who spent time advertising/promoting the concert - a plethora of posters in the locality and a plug on Radio Leicester will I'm sure have made a big difference to audience size which was very pleasing
  • All those who played for and helped bands in the Organisation other than their own....this willingness to support one another was particularly pleasing to see
  • All those past and associated members whose help throughout all groups was invaluable, how wonderful to see them continuing their association with the Enderby Band family

If I have missed anyone's contribution I do apologise, but this exhaustive (and some may say exhausting!) list does show just how extensive is the workload / input, and from so many people, which goes into providing an evening such as last night.

For my own personal part, being invited to conduct the Massed Bands was indeed a great privilege and provided for me (and hopefully the audience and bands alike) a wonderful ending to a wonderful night.

As I said then, it was and still, is a huge honour to be asked to be President of the Enderby Band Organisation. It is a position which I hold with both immense pride and deep humility. We have in Enderby a superlative and quite unique organisation, unlike any other I know, and I hope to continue to support and encourage all those involved in every and any way that I can.

Honoured to be your President,

Garry.
